Workshops and Presenters:
After the School Bell Rings: A Staff Development Toolkit
This workshop will prepare participants to use “After the School Bell Rings: A Staff Development Toolkit” which was designed to assist afterschool program supervisors to provide their staff with a basic understanding of the components of a quality afterschool program. The toolkit contains a training guide, a staff notebook and a DVD with
program examples. The toolkit’s modules provide training on the following afterschool program components: Quality Programming, Community and Family Involvement, Research and Evaluation, Financing, Staffing and Training, Management and Administration and Policy.
Presenter: Cara Akright, Youth Development Program Coordinator, Center for Schools and Communities, Camp Hill, PA
Ending the Dependency: Embrace Abundance
Participants will learn to embrace and prioritize individual investor-based fundraising as an integral part of their overall organizational fundraising efforts. The skills taught in this workshop will help participants find new and creative ways to identify and recruit volunteers; tap into their wisdom, experience, and skill sets for the benefit of their afterschool program;
and, most importantly, raise all of the money their afterschool program needs to both survive and thrive!
Presenter: Craig A. Bowman, President, Common Ground Consulting, Washington, DC
Rethinking Diversity: Analyzing Privilege and Socialization
If afterschool programs are to succeed in improving social conditions in this country, it is critical that the field is actively engaged in understanding and addressing issues of diversity. This powerful workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to engage in a variety of thought-provoking and highly interactive activities designed to challenge each of us to "step outside our comfort zones" and explore the ways in which we have been socialized concerning human differences. This workshop will involve participants on a personal level; as well as provide mechanisms for incorporating community building and anti-oppression strategies into existing and future afterschool programming.
Presenter: Craig A. Bowman, President, Common Ground Consulting, Washington, DC
Act 48 Professional Development Credits
The Center for Schools and Communities, as a division of the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit, offers Act 48 professional development credit for those with Pennsylvania teaching or administrative certificates. Participants must attend the workshop from beginning to end to receive credit. A facilitator will distribute the Record of Attendance form at the beginning of the workshop and collect the required information upon completion of the workshop.
