Revisiting the APR
Carol McElvain and Lisa Knight, Learning Point Associates, offered a training in May 3 and 5, 2006 for Cohort i and ii on how to use the Profile and Performance Information Collection System (PPICS), the web-based data collection system provided by the U.S. Department of Education. Learn how to enter your Grantee Profile and Annual Performance Report data, keep your Grantee Profile up to date, and use the Report function to monitor and provide information about your grant. Character Education
On April 5, 2005, Dr. Cynthia Belliveau,Pennsylvania Service-Learning Alliance, focused on how 21st CCLC can build character and promote positive behaviors of students. An emphasis on how students can develop classroom Codes of Ethics that will provide helpful guidelines for student behavior and allow for self monitoring of behavior by students.

Family Involvement
On March 30, 2005, Quibila Divine, Pennsylvania Department of Education, discussed how to engage families, schools and community agencies. Research also highlighted that that children whose families are involved do better academically, have lower truancy rates, enroll in secondary education, have an increase test scores and graduate more than those children whose families are not involved. Out-of-School Time Resource Center (OSTRC)
On March 3, 2005, Nancy Peter, Director of the Out-of-School Time Resource Center (OSTRC) at the University of Pennsylvania discussed the current activities and resources made available through the center. The OSTRC aims to promote out-of-school time student achievement through improved access to staff resources and effective professional development. This presentation will review what resources are available through the OSTRC, how to find resources on the center’s website (www.ssw.upenn.edu/ostrc/) and will discuss the current research study being conducted by the OSTRC. Integrating Technology into Afterschool Programming
On December 7, 2004, Jon Zemanek, Pennsylvania Service-Learning Alliance, coordinator of PSLA's Digital Divide Initiative, led a conference call describing some of the exciting technology programs staff and students have been using. The Digital Miracles Program was one of the highlights in this presentation. This program is a innovative curriculum for middle school students in which they learn to take apart and rebuild a computer, install their own software and engage in a service project related to the skills they are learning.
